Anesu Taruona, originally from Harare, Zimbabwe, brings a unique blend of artistry and cultural perspective to the stage, recently graduated with a B.A. in Dance and a B.S. in Commercial Multimedia from Southeast Missouri State University. Her dance journey began at age six at Eileen Fleet's School of Dancing, where she diligently pursued Ballet, completing all RAD grades up to Advanced Foundation. While rooted in a strong classical background, Anesu broadened her artistic horizons at SEMO, delving into styles like jazz and hip hop, and developing a love for modern and contemporary dance, with a special appreciation for the Horton technique. Furthering her training, Anesu has attended prestigious summer intensives including Ballet 5:8, Burklyn Ballet, and the American Dance Festival. Her performance credits at SEMO include memorable roles in Kia Smith's "Under Your Wings" and Sabrina Naz's "Carry On! Carry On!" An aspiring choreographer, she also had the privilege to choreograph for the main stage shows Spring Into Dance 2022, Fall for Dance 2022, and Fall for Dance 2023, and contributed to the student led showcase Moving Perspectives 2025. Anesu is driven by a desire to tell compelling stories and connect deeply with audiences through her movement.
